The Friends of AIDS Foundation Responds To The Crisis In Haiti.
A 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti's capital of Port -au-Prince on January
12, 2010 causing mass destruction and bringing the area to a complete
standstill. The death toll is estimated to be in the tens of thousands and may
reach as high as one hundred thousand.

Haiti, which is the poorest country in the Western hemisphere, has an
estimated population of 9 million people. Approximately 80 percent of the
population lives below the poverty line. According to UNAIDS, approximately
120,000 Haitians are living with HIV/AIDS.

Reports indicate that the two main facilities of an HIV/AIDS treatment center
called Gheskio were heavily damaged during the quake.

THERE IS AN URGENT NEED FOR MEDICATIONS IN HAITI!

Time is a critical factor; If someone is HIV positive and on medication, they
need to take their medication every single day at the same time. It is not safe
for someone on HIV medications to miss doses. If they do, they take the
chance of their medications mutating.(no longer working).

Due to the earthquake, the medications have been either destroyed or buried
in the rubble, making it nearly impossible for someone to retrieve their life
saving medications. Since someone with HIV has a compromised immune
system, they are more likely to contract other diseases and infections more
easily. So time is major factor in getting medications and services to people
with HIV.

The Friends of AIDS Foundation is responding to the need for assistance by
collecting any ANTIRETROVIRAL, ANTIBIOTICS OR PROPHYLAXIS medication,
before the expiration date and preferably in sealed bottles.

MAALES Project - Men of African American Legacy Empowering Self

You may be eligible to be part of a program to promote self acceptance, healthy lifestyle

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a culturally based HIV/AIDS risk-
reduction intervention designed specifically for African American men who had or have both
male and female sexual partners.

emphasizes cultural pride and community well being rather than sexual identity as
motivations for behavioral change to reduce risky behaviors.
